Muted/Mu Ran

Yi Tian threw these bits and pieces of information on the table and didn’t utter a word for a long time.

Yi Tian thought, how could the person who thought to leave his money to an unfamiliar stranger be the same person who drugged him?

This person was clearly just greedy after finding out about Yi Tian’s family background and was no different from the men and women who tried their best to climb into his bed. He was hypocritical, underhanded, good at disguising himself with pity, and was a filthy person.

But scattered on the table- the photocopies of the thank-you letters he wrote, the letters he left to Xiao-Yiyi, and the papers Xiao-Yiyi’s parents posted in the hospital looking for him- they were silently refuting him.

Yi Tian suddenly thought of a time when a group of their friends went to a hot spring, and several people encouraged him to call Mu Ran. After Mu Ran came, they asked him to wait in the courtyard downstairs, and deliberately turned off Yi Tian’s mobile phone.

After a long time passed, and Mu Ran still couldn’t find Yi Tian, he could only inquire to the passing waiter. After the other party shook his head, he stilled in place blankly. Lin Han didn’t think that was enough, so he beckoned for people to go down and pretend to be a passing stranger striking up a conversation. After seeing a blushing Mu Ran desperately waving his hands and backing away, the group of people upstairs were laughing back and forth.

From when the scorching sun was high to the bright moon hanging in the sky, he waited in that small courtyard for a day.

They were sitting in the luxurious private room upstairs, drinking the best sake, eating the best Japanese food, thinking of all kinds of ideas to play tricks on Mu Ran; to see him make a fool of himself, almost like playing a monkey. Yi Tian originally had thought that no matter how tolerant the person was, he would grow frustrated. However, by the time Yi Tian finally appeared in front of Mu Ran, Mu Ran smiled relievedly, and said to him: “You scared me to death, your phone suddenly shut down and I thought something was wrong.”

At that time, what had been his mood? Had he felt guilty or anxious in the slightest? Yi Tian had long forgotten. Looking back on it now, he felt so uncomfortable that he couldn’t breathe.

Yi Tian got up, squatted down in front of Mu Ran, looked up at him, and asked, “What do you like about me?”

The person being questioned lowered his head and looked at the floor vacantly as if he had not heard anything.

Yi Tian stretched out his hand to brush away the hair on Mu Ran’s forehead and found a less conspicuous scar on the upper left of his forehead. He had noticed this scar when he washed Mu Ran’s hair and now knew that it had been smashed by his former adoptive parents with an ashtray. Yi Tian reached out and gently touched the place that was colored slightly different than the surrounding skin, leaned over, and kissed it.

Later, Lin Han called and said that he had reserved a place at Ya Yuan for Yi Tian to come over to eat tomorrow. From Mu Ran’s accident to the present, he had not contacted Yi Tian on his own initiative, as he himself knew to feel a little guilty.

T/N Note:
I’ve been super busy lately, and haven’t had much time to translate TAT (I’ll try not to split chapters in the future)- I promise I’ll get back to translating Pt. 2 and more when I resolve my workload !!
On a side note, I feel like《错季》, a Chinese song I’ve been listening to lately fits the vibe of Muted… Maybe give it a try?
