Muted- Ch. 26.1

Muted/Mu Ran

On the second day that Xu Ran came, Yi Tian had just finished feeding Mu Ran and was wiping Mu Ran’s mouth. The Auntie who had just opened the door for Xu Ran and He Xudong came over and lowered her head to concentrate on the food, without looking to the side. On the contrary, He Xudong stood in the distance and stared at Yi Tian, as if he were an alien.

Xu Ran gave him a glance and walked over to look at Mu Ran. After she saw that he was still sluggish and unresponsive, she asked Yi Tian with a frown, “Aren’t you going to eat today?”

Yi Tian hummed. Xu Ran stared at him for a while, then suddenly raised her eyebrows and asked, “How did he eat yesterday and today?”

As she spoke, she turned to look at the Auntie who was cleaning the table.

Yi Tian didn’t shy away, however, and admitted generously, “I fed him.”

He Xudong, who had just come over after relieving his breath, suddenly heard such a sentence again and choked.

Xu Ran didn’t care too much, but continued to ask, “Does he cooperate?”

Yi Tian nodded, “He can understand simple instructions and gestures.”

Xu Ran listened to his words, forked a blueberry from the fruit plate brought by the Auntie next to him, gently touched Mu Ran’s mouth, and said warmly: “Mu Ran, open your mouth.”

Mu Ran didn’t respond, but Xu Ran wasn’t discouraged. She repeated it seven or eight times, but Mu Ran still sat there without moving. Yi Tian frowned and looked at them beside him, wondering in his heart, that Mu Ran had just been fine after eating, had his illness been exacerbated?

Xu Ran gave Yi Tian a thoughtful look and handed the fork over, “Try it.”

Yi Tian took it over, according to the action and tone of feeding Mu Ran when he had just eaten. He only said “Open your mouth,” once for Mu Ran to open his mouth slightly and swallow the blueberries.

Xu Ran took a deep breath and laughed angrily, “It’s ironic that he only responds to your voice. Even after becoming like this, he still remembers you.”

Yi Tian was stunned and lowered his eyes, silent. However, when he heard Xu Ran whispering, “It’s alright, I don’t have to think about picking him up”, he raised his head suddenly, squinted his eyes, and asked in a cold voice: “Take him away? When did I promise you something like that?”

Xu Ran sneered, “Of course, you won’t let him leave now. You haven’t tired of the same pity game yet.”

Yi Tian looked at He Xudong, who was standing behind Xu Ran, and He Xudong, with a crying look of “Forgive me, I have a cheap mouth.”

Xu Ran continued: “Depressed patients need the care of their family the most. He has no family and only has you. If you really throw him away after half the treatment, then he can only wait for death. I wanted to take him out for treatment. I have a few seniors who’ve done research in this area.”

Yi Tian wanted to say something, but Xu Ran interrupted him with a cold voice: “But now I can’t take him away even if you agree; He ignores others and only reacts to you. There may be a possibility of recovery by your side, and if I take him away, it may harm him.”

Ever since Xu Ran learned about Yi Tian and Mu Ran, she’d sneered sarcastically at Yi Tian many times, but Yi Tian had never reacted. But this time, he was no longer silent. His gaze was directed at Mu Ran, but he warned Xu Ran, “I will only say it once. I won’t allow it.”

Xu Ran glanced at him with blatant distrust on her face. Still, she didn’t say anything, taking out the medicine without expression, and giving some precautions.

Yi Tian listened carefully, occasionally asking questions.

Before leaving, Xu Ran looked at the person who had been sitting on the sofa for the entire exchange, with dull eyes, and smiled lightly at Yi Tian, ”You should also read those materials. This person isn’t as despicable as you think. Will you be disappointed?”

Yi Tian looked down at the medicine without answering. Xu Ran put away her smile, and her voice slowly froze.

”You treat him like a mouse, tearing off his hands and feet, and shattering his bones. In the end, you step on his tail to stop him from stealing the breadcrumbs by your feet. Is it fun?

Yi Tian didn’t respond, and He Xudong’s expression changed next to him, he quickly stepped forward and pulled Xu Ran out. Xu Ran didn’t say more, glancing coldly at Yi Tian, and threw his arm off and strode out.

He Xudong stood in place awkwardly, and in the end, sighed. He said apologetically to Yi Tian: “She read those materials yesterday and cried the entire night. Don’t fuss with her.”

Yi Tian had always had a bad temper- Even they had to play it safe to not touch his bottom line. Recently, Xu Ran’s words had crossed the line; He Xudong had prepared many times for Yi Tian to anger.

But Yi Tian didn’t take these piercing words to heart. He nodded, “Go back and thank Xu Ran for me. Mu Ran’s illness will still need her help.”

He Xudong twitched the corners of his mouth helplessly. “Don’t worry, she hasn’t been this dedicated, even to me.” Thinking of what happened yesterday, he smiled bitterly, “I’m really afraid that one day she will run away with Mu Ran and won’t want me anymore.” When He Xudong thought about it, he felt that he was getting his retribution.

Hearing the holding sound of a car horn outside, Yi Tian raised his chin. “Alright, you should leave now.”

He Xudong nodded, glanced at Mu Ran hesitantly before leaving. He said to Yi Tian, ”You… think about it.” Hearing a hum in response from Yi Tian, he closed the door and left.
